Farewell to Stephen
It is with a heavy heart that we will soon be saying farewell to Stephen who is ready to embrace the next challenge in his career as a full-time potter. Stephen bounced in to the studio in January 2021 as our first studio assistant. He has been a welcoming front of house, friendly and helpful assistant to our members, and a valuable support to the manager. We have watched him grow from a relative novice and budding wheel thrower, through his first big commission, become a dad to adorable puppy Otter, to today's confident potter ready to take on a full-time role as Mr Potter. It has been a delight to work with Stephen and to be part of his journey. Hopefully he will remain close to the society, run the odd gas firing and maybe even do some tutoring. We really will miss having him around so must make the most of the last few weeks he'll be working with us. We wish him only the best for Mr Potter and whatever else lies ahead.
Cleaner needed
We are looking for a reliable cleaner for 4 hours weekly on Sundays (independent contractor role). It is a large space that must be wet vacuumed so needs someone with good fitness. If you are interested or know someone who would be right for the role, please ask them to contact the studio.
Annual General Meeting
This is a reminder that the Annual General Meeting of the Waikato Society of Potters will be held at the WSP club rooms on Tuesday 24 May at 7pm.
Today is the last day to submit your nominations for the 2022-2023 WSP Committee. If you love the club, please consider getting involved at a governance level. Our committee is currently small and we would love more representation from our membership.
Download the nomination form and return it by email to manager@waikatopotters.co.nz today.
The agenda for the meeting can be read by scrolling to the last post on this page.

Annual Exhibition
Venue: ArtsPost Hamilton
Opening preview evening 26 May, 5.30pm
27 May - 27 June 2022
Entries are now closed for our annual exhibition which launches next week.
Thank you to everyone who submitted entries. We can't wait to see them on display at ArtsPost.
We invite our members to join us to celebrate the opening of the exhibition at the opening preview next Thursday evening (26th May at 5.30pm). The exhibition opens to the public on 27 May so please let your friends know.
It is tradition that members bring a plate to the opening preview. WSP will provide drinks. If you can bring a plate, it would be much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the talent and sense of community among our membership. It is our 50th annual exhibition so we expect it to be an extra special event.
Gas firing
We don't usually fire the gas kiln during the week but we are making an exception next week as we want to help a few people get their work through on time for the exhibition. If you have any last minute work that needs to go through the gas kiln, please drop it in on Saturday (10am-1pm). We can't promise it will get in this time as preference will be for the exhibition work, but there might be space...
Committee email address
The WSP Committee now have a dedicated email address. If you have any queries or issues that you would like to be directed to the committee, rather than staff at the society, please use the address waikatopotters.committee@gmail.com Please note that committee members are volunteers so the mailbox will not be checked on a daily basis. If the matter is urgent, please let the WSP manager know that it needs to be checked promptly and the message will be relayed.

- PROPOSAL FOR CHANGES TO THE WAIKATO SOCIETY OF POTTERS MEMBERSHIP FEES
The committee of the Waikato Society of Potters hereby gives notice that a motion to change the society’s membership rules will be put to the 2022 Annual General Meeting. The AGM will be held at the Waikato Society of Potters, Studio 1: Ward Park Art Centre, 2 Seddon Road, Hamilton in the main workshop at 7.00pm on Tuesday the 24th of May 2022.
The purpose of the following changes is to enable the Society to move forward to best serve its membership. Due to increasing costs passed on to the Society from suppliers, prices must increase across the board within the Society to overcome financial difficulties encountered, due to the impact of regulations around Covid 19. One such way is to increase the membership fee. It has also been extremely difficult to find volunteers to support the Society’s activities and events. This has had an impact on the Society’s ability to function on a daily basis and support regular events. The committee wishes to encourage more volunteerism within the membership by rewarding those who volunteer with a reduced membership fee.
With this in mind the committee proposes the following:
Proposal 1
That an ordinary membership fee be raised so that the Annual membership becomes $ 90 (for period 1 April to 31 March) and the 6-monthly membership becomes available at $ 50 (for the period 1 April-30 September).
That those members who have given their time to volunteer for 40 hours within the year for the Society be recognised with a reduced Annual membership for period 1 April to 31 March from $ 90, to $ 60 effective in 2023. The manager of the Waikato Society of Potters to determine how hours by each volunteer is recorded.
