COVID-19 update | Javier Murcia workshop | Saturday contactless firing | Hours next week

Are these yours? We have been admiring these beautiful horses standing on the blue shelves. They are ready to go home and we can't wait to find out who their human is.

COVID-19 update

The use of word "update" in the subtitle above might give the wrong impression. It implies that the slight change to the Level 3 restrictions (moving from Step 1 to 2) might have brought a change to studio operations. Unfortunately this isn't the case. Classes and workshops, and the woodfiring we had scheduled for this weekend remain on hold, postponed until there are further loosening of restrictions.

However, we are getting closer to that time and hope that, once we move to Step 3, we will be able to resume classes, workshops and Open Studio sessions, albeit with some strict guidelines in place. There will of course need to be a little rescheduling to fit everything in and we will get on to that just as soon as we hear when we can open up.

Diploma

While we can't have WSP classes, the case is a little different for tertiary education institutions. Otago Polytechnic Diploma students within our boundary borders have been able to come onsite to continue to access facilities. The assessment date is not far away now so the students are working their socks off. It's been such a joy to have them here these last couple of Fridays. A reminder of bustling studio days. If you are considering enrolling in next year's diploma programme, please email alex@mysterycreekceramics.co.nz to find out more and register your interest.

Simplified figure sculpture with Javier Murcia - New workshop date

Javier's workshop could not be held during the October Labour weekend since we were locked down. Now we have a pre-holiday treat to announce. All going well, we will be holding his simplified figure sculpture workshop on 18-20 December. We are hoping the December date will mean we are more likely to be open and running again. Some people had to cancel their spots because rescheduling doesn't work for them, so if you are interested in reserving a place, please email Sarah (manager@waikatopotters.co.nz) if you are interested in reserving a spot. You can check out Javier's outstanding work at https://javiermurcia.com/ and https://workshopsculpting.com

Tickets for the 3 day weekend workshop are $600 for members, $650 for non-members and this includes clay and hire of stands.

Contactless firing

We are continuing to offer contactless clay sales as well as drop-offs and pick-ups of firing.

Saturday 6 November, 9-11am
Sarah will be at the studio tomorrow morning for a couple of hours. If you have any work to drop off for firing, you can do so from 9am until 11am. Pick-ups are also possible provided your work is easy to identify (photos help) as you are not able to enter the building. Please see last week's news post for links to firing sheets. Please pay by bank transfer: 03-0371-0110591-000 using "firing" as the reference.

Monday - Friday, 10am-2pm
Stephen or Sarah will be in the studio next week at the above times, unless there is a change to the levels, in which case we will let you know about any update.
