Drop-offs and pick-ups next week | Next week's online get-together for members | Some video tutorials - darted cups and more from Ceramic Arts Network
Contactless clay purchases and firing
By now you know the drill for Level 3 at the studio. Unless we drop levels next week (fingers crossed we do though), the following contactless services are available from Monday to Friday 10am-2pm.
- To purchase clay, please email info@waikatopotters.co.nz to check we have what you need and to arrange pick up.
- Drop-offs: please measure your work before you drop them off and pay via internet banking. We can't measure onsite at present. You will need to leave your box behind but can collect it when picking up fired work. Download club firing sheet Download commercial firing sheet
- Pick-ups: you will not be able to enter the building so pick-ups are only possible for identifiable work. Call us or email with as much information as possible to help us locate it - photos are really good if you have them. Bring a container and packaging for collection, if you haven't left it with us already as we have pretty much used up what we had.
Get together with other members
Tuesday evening online meet-up sessions for members are great. We are really enjoying the community spirit of those who join us. People are getting to know other members and we are now getting requests for demonstrations. Last week, Tess pulled handles. Next week we will get an overview of slip casting.
The sessions are free and open to current members.
If you would like to join next week, please RSVP to me at manager@waikatopotters.co.nz
If you have a technique you would like to demonstrate to others in coming sessions, please let me know. The group is attended by people at varying levels of experience and is a very inclusive and friendly audience.
Online tutorials
Have you been enjoying any online ceramics tutorials you would like to share? Please send your links to helpful tutorials you would like to share with your fellow potters (email to manager@waikatopotters.co.nz).
There are so many videos available online teaching new techniques you can do at home with basic tools. Our Tuesday evening sessions are showing that people are keen to continue learning while they can't come to the studio. While we are working on ways to bring more online learning to you direct from WSP, there are heaps of tutorials out there.
There are quite a lot of tutorials available on Ceramic Arts Network's website that outlining interesting techniques, like this one, below, about building a mug shaped using darts.
Our Friday evening Introduction to Pottery tutor David Kenny also has a YouTube channel Pottery with an Engineer that you might enjoy too.
