Exhibition winners and pics

Hello, fabulous friends!

What a brilliant night the exhibition opening was last night. It really is the highlight of the WSP calendar and a great opportunity to celebrate what an excellent collection of people make up our membership.

Our deepest thanks go to everyone who was involved in any way at all. From those who entered their work, curated and installed the exhibition, admin’ed the event, entries and awards, attended the opening, brought food along, sponsored awards, spoke and presented awards, to those who have already purchased works and supported our exhibitors – we can’t express how much your contributions to this event are appreciated. <3

Check out the award winners and pics below (People’s Choice to be announced at the end of the exhibition), plus a few other notices.

WSP 52nd Annual Exhibition Award Winners

Congratulations to all our award winners! The exhibition will be running until the 22nd of September, so head along and experience these works, and the many others, in person. That’s sure to be far better than viewing this mediocre photographer’s images here, but nevertheless, here are said pics…

Artist’s talk – Andrea du Chatenier

7pm tonight at the WSP Studios
Show and tell + potluck dinner
Please bring a kai to share and something to drink if you wish.

How fantastic was it to have Andrea du Chatenier judging our exhibition and presenting awards last night? Andrea is an extraordinary artist and such a wonderful personality! We are also very lucky to be able to offer an evening with Andrea du Chatenier tonight, where you can share a potluck dinner, and hear and see what makes her tick. Members and non-members are all welcome. No charge, but please bring a kai to share and let us know if you’re attending here.

About Andrea:

Born in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton, Andrea du Chatenier is a sculptor turned ceramicist. She has received numerous grants and awards for her accomplished and challenging work, including selection for the Sao Paulo Biennale, the Wallace Arts Trust Vermont Award, and the Portage Ceramics Residency Award at Guldagergaard, Denmark. In 2022 Andrea was awarded the Blumhardt Foundation Gift for her contribution to New Zealand Craft.

After completing the Tylee Cottage Artist Residency at the Sarjeant Gallery in 2004, Andrea set up studio in Whanganui. With her current practice du Chatenier has turned her focus to  exploring the inherent qualities of the medium. The forms are abstracted and commonly stacked together as towering structures emphasizing the tactile and sensual properties of the ceramic surface.
