Studio Maintenance

We are going to use some of the term holiday period to carry out some maintenance, including work on the floor of the mezzanine. The floor upstairs needs to be sealed so there will be a high level of fumes for a few days. This means we will have to close the studio during that time. Apologies for the inconvenience. Please refer to the holiday timetable below for more details.

Volunteering

Our clay community are so wonderful. The club is both a charity and an incorporated society, running on a shoestring with the help of our amazing volunteers who fill our hearts with gratitude.

Recently, we have had a team of volunteer wood firers working on a project to glaze and fire a vast amount of bisqueware in our collection. The results are spectacular and if you would like to see some of the works, a lot are on display in the kitchen cabinets. Deep gratitude goes out to Janet Smith, Ginny Lane, Clare Wimmer, Yasmin Davies, Barry O'Brien and Julie Burwell for their heroic work.

Most of our club gas kiln firings are also done by volunteers. Burns Macaskill and Craig Stephen have volunteered their time to fire the last two loads of member work. The photo above shows Burns discussing some of his own glaze results with Craig and resident artist Emma Meyers.

We have had 3 sessions with school groups from Te Aroha this week. It's been joyous witnessing the creative freedom of young minds but it was franticly busy and we are indebted to Meg Wilshier and Emma Meyers for helping Sarah Lee with the sessions.

Volunteers for the Welcoming Communities Expo

We have booked a stall at the Welcoming Communities Expo and would love a few volunteers to help us on the stall for a few hours on 8 July.

The expo is designed for new migrants, refugees, international students, and their families. It will connect them with services and community groups in Hamilton Kirikiriroa to help them settle, and enjoy life, work, study and play in their new city.  We would like to bring a little clay joy to the day and let them know they are welcome at our club. If you can give a few hours to demonstrate and help people to have a go with clay, please contact Sarah.

Holiday timetable

With a few workshops and some studio maintenance coming up, we have some changes to the usual schedule. The latest timetable is below. As we will have to miss a few Saturday PWC sessions due to workshops, and some other PWC and Open Studio sessions due to maintenance closures, we are adding a few extra sessions (see some of the Thursday evening sessions below).
