Thank you for a great Open Day
A message from WSP President, Tess May
What a great day out for whanau to experience creating with clay at the Society’s inaugural Open Day held on Saturday 15th of April.
The kaupapa of the day is to give the wider community experience with clay with the view to inspire them and the next generation about creating with clay. I think the adults were more excited than the young ones, expressing that they have always wanted to try working with clay but hadn’t taken the opportunity until now.
The workshop was buzzing with a lot of first timers. The wheels were humming. Plenty of sharing happening at the hand building and tile painting tables. The young ones had a great time at the squish an’ squash table as well as taking a chance with a lucky dip prize. The raku firing was another success. This was an exciting learning experience with fire and many retuned home with a glazed creation.
A fantastic response by members, staff and artists in residence who volunteered to instruct, sell tickets, conduct a Raku firing, offer baking to sell, items for raffles and to set up. Awesome team effort.
A big thank you to the committee who organised the events. The committee is a great bunch of people who give their time regularly to move the society forward. We are small in number and need more members to join to support the society future direction. Please contact us at waikatopotters@gmail.com
Congratulations Larry!
If you have been in the studio in the last 14 months, you've probably had the pleasure of meeting Larissa (Larry). Since Larry began as a studio assistant, she has proven to be a reliable team member who is aligned with our community spirit and committed to the aims of the society. From Day 1, Larry hit the ground running, full of ideas, showing great initiative - always with the club's interests at heart - and happy to accept more responsibility. In recognition of the many strengths she brings to the club, Larry has been promoted to a co-managing role. In her new leadership role, Larry will be responsible for the coordination of many of the kiln room and studio activities, as well as co-managing the team with me, Sarah. Congratulations Larry, and thanks for being such a super team mate!
